What are MCP Servers?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external data sources and tools. An MCP server is a bridge between AI and your business systems.

The problem

AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, and Copilot are powerful — but out of the box, they can only work with what you paste into them. They can't access your CRM data, read your SharePoint documents, check your HubSpot pipeline, or send emails through Outlook on their own. Every time you need AI to work with your business data, you're copying, pasting, and manually bridging the gap.

The solution: MCP

MCP servers give AI assistants a structured, secure way to read from and write to your existing systems. Instead of pasting data into prompts, the AI can directly: Query your Dataverse tables for customer records Search your SharePoint document libraries Look up deals in your HubSpot pipeline Draft and send emails through Outlook Create tasks, update records, trigger workflows All of this happens through the MCP protocol — a standardized interface that any compatible AI client can use.

Think of an MCP server as a translator — it understands what the AI needs, talks to your business system's API, and returns the result in a format the AI can use.

Connect any system your team uses

MCP servers can integrate with virtually any system that has an API. We build custom servers that bridge AI to the specific platforms your organization relies on.

Dataverse / Dynamics 365

Query tables, create and update records, execute custom actions, manage solutions, and work with entity metadata — all through natural language prompts to your AI assistant.

SharePoint and OneDrive

Search documents, read file contents, upload files, manage folders, and navigate site structures. Perfect for document-heavy workflows that need AI understanding.

Microsoft Outlook

Read incoming emails, draft replies, manage calendar events, search across mailboxes, and process attachments — making your AI assistant an email-aware collaborator.

HubSpot CRM

Access contacts, companies, deals, and tickets. Search your pipeline, update deal stages, log activities, and pull reports — bridging sales data with AI insights.

Microsoft Teams

Send messages to channels, read conversation history, manage team memberships, and integrate with Teams workflows for AI-powered collaboration.

Custom APIs and databases

Any system with a REST API, GraphQL endpoint, or database connection can be exposed through MCP. We build connectors for your proprietary and line-of-business systems.

Local vs Cloud-Based MCP Servers

MCP servers can run on your own machine or in the cloud. Each approach has different strengths — and we build both.

More than a passthrough

Off-the-shelf API connectors give AI raw access to endpoints. But your team doesn't think in endpoints — they think in processes: "onboard this client", "process this invoice", "prepare the monthly report". Custom MCP servers encode your business rules directly into the tools the AI can use. Instead of exposing a generic "create record" tool, you expose a "create qualified lead" tool that validates required fields, applies your scoring logic, assigns the correct owner, and triggers follow-up tasks — all in one step. This means the AI doesn't need to know your internal processes — the MCP server handles that. Users just describe what they want in natural language, and the server ensures it happens correctly.

What custom logic looks like

Data validation — ensure records meet your business rules before creation. Multi-step workflows — one tool call triggers a sequence of operations across systems. Permission scoping — limit what AI can access based on user role or department. Data enrichment — automatically fill in related data from other systems. Smart defaults — pre-populate fields based on your business context Aggregation — combine data from multiple sources into a single, coherent response. Guardrails — prevent destructive operations (like deleting production data) at the server level.

Custom logic aligned with your business

An MCP server isn't just a raw API connector — it adds a layer of business logic, validation, and workflow intelligence that makes AI useful for your specific processes.

Real-world
examples

Automated invoice processing

A user drops invoice files into a folder. The MCP server monitors for new files, extracts text content, calls an AI processing pipeline to parse vendor, amount, line items, and tax details, then creates the corresponding records in Dataverse and uploads the original document to SharePoint — all without the user opening a single application. Intelligent Lead qualification

A sales rep says: "Qualify the new leads from this week." The MCP server fetches unqualified leads from Dataverse, checks each one against your scoring criteria (company size, industry, engagement signals from HubSpot), assigns a lead score, updates the lead status, and notifies the assigned sales rep via Teams — transforming a multi-step manual process into a single prompt. Dataverse • HubSpot • Teams

Cross-system customer 360

An account manager asks the AI: "Give me a full picture of Contoso Ltd." The MCP server simultaneously queries Dataverse for account details and open opportunities, HubSpot for marketing engagement history, SharePoint for any signed contracts, and Outlook for recent email threads — then presents a unified summary. Dataverse • HubSpot • SharePoint • Outlook

Automated reporting and data exports

A manager asks: "Generate the Q1 sales report and upload it to the Reports folder." The MCP server queries Dataverse for closed opportunities in the date range, aggregates by region and product line, formats the data into a structured report, and uploads the finished document to the designated SharePoint library — no Power BI configuration or manual data wrangling needed. Dataverse • SharePoint • Aggregation

Onboarding workflow orchestration

HR tells the AI: "Onboard Jane Smith as a Marketing Analyst starting March 1." The MCP server creates the employee record in Dataverse, provisions a SharePoint folder with onboarding documents, sends a welcome email through Outlook with first-day instructions, creates onboarding tasks in the task management system, and notifies the hiring manager via Teams. One sentence, five systems coordinated. Dataverse • SharePoint • Outlook • Teams
